Nothing tells us the magnificence of words more eloquently than the 12 volumes of the OED. The dictionary requests its users to confront to the historical accumulation of human knowledge and ideas. Now, after reading this book, I have come to see this linguistic monument from a different point of view. It describes how an American doctor, who joined Civil War, lost his insanity and committed a murder. As I read on, I found myself walking on a bridge scarcely balanced by the hospitality from the people around him and his dedication to the making of the OED. As a lexicophilia, I am very blissful to finish this book.
